Hello
My name is Larkin Sackett. I started my professional dog walking journey of the past eight years working for Windy City Paws in Chicago. They were voted best dog walking business by the Chicago Reader while I was tenured there 2017-2019. WCP specializes in working with rescues and uses Fear Free training to reduce fear, anxiety, stress, and to help provide individualized care plans to support owners and their dogs. I trained through FetchFind and continue to bring those same practices to my services in Portland.
My values and practices
The safety and wellbeing of your pups are my top priority. Dogs have different moods, needs, and personalities. They have triumphs, setbacks, and regressions the same way we do. I begin each walk with a Tip to Tail check (tip of the nose to the tip of the tail) to note if there are any physical changes or needs. I then proceed with quick focusing exercises to get us on the same page before departing on our adventure. There are lots of unknown variables when walking in the city. I do my best to mitigate and eliminate as many of them as possible while remaining in constant assessment of how your dog is interacting and responding to the world on any given day. Our walks provide routine and exercise for the body, as well as for the brain, something that is incredibly important for any dogs with working dog or sport dog in their lineage. I work on curbing behavior with redirection and reinforce any training you are working on at home. We finish out our time together with a little love and fresh water. These practices and routines can greatly help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress.
While the majority of my time is spent with your four legged friend, I am here as a resource for you. We all go through changes and the path to success is certainly not straight or always clear, but together we can set your fur babies up for success. Many behaviors can be discouraged with the right gear and interactive toys/puzzles. If there is a behavior you are working on or a specific goal you are working towards, please reach out. Decoding what our four legged friends are feeling and trying to communicate to us nonverbally can be frustrating. Together we can compare notes and plan a course of action. One of the most rewarding parts of this job is finding solutions where everyone feels accomplished and can then move onto the next goal...one paw at a time.
